Discover the Remastered Adventure: Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

Let’s take a little journey through the history of an iconic action RPG series. Ys III: Wanderers From Ys, the third installment in the Ys series, made its debut in 1989, followed by console ports in 1991. Fast forward to 2005, when a remake titled Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana was released. This remake, however, didn’t reach Western audiences until 2012. Recently, the remastered version launched in Japan for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation in April 2023 and May 2024, respectively. Now, Marvelous Europe and XSEED Games are set to bring the remastered Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana to the West for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation in early 2025.

If you’re attending Anime Expo in Los Angeles from July 4-7, you’ll have the opportunity to try out the game at the Marvelous USA and XSEED Games booth. Additionally, they are releasing a “Refined Edition” for the Switch and PS5, which includes an acrylic keychain/diorama set, a set of four postcards, a compilation soundtrack CD, and a microfiber cloth.

Remastered Features and Gameplay

Check out the announcement trailer for Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, the upcoming remaster of the beloved action RPG. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS5 (PlayStation 5), and PS4 (PlayStation 4) in early 2025. The storyline follows the adventurous protagonist Adol and his blue-haired companion Dogi as they return to Dogi’s homeland, Felghana, after an eight-year absence. Unfortunately, the land they once knew is now plagued by roaming monsters, an active volcano, and a new, greedy overlord who exploits the suffering residents. While Dogi seeks assistance from his former master, Adol remains to help the locals, only to become entangled in a web of conspiracies and ancient legacies.

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana stays true to the series’ signature action RPG combat but introduces new difficulty options and enhancements like Turbo Mode. The visuals have been remastered in high definition, with new refined character illustrations available alongside the classic versions for those who prefer the original look. The soundtrack features three versions: Original, PC-8801, and X68000, all of which have been remastered. Players can choose which soundtrack to listen to while playing. Additionally, new voice acting has been recorded for Adol, including an opening narration.

Interestingly, the company accidentally posted a tweet (now deleted) meant for July 7, the last day of Anime Expo 2024. The tweet read: “Time is running out to try out our Anime Expo 2024 demos and cosplay photo op! Only one day left to play the demos for Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, Potionomics: Masterwork Edition, and Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion—stop by Booth E-110 before the show ends!”
